UCSF Police Department
The University of California, San Francisco Police Department (UCSF PD) serves the University community by helping to protect it against crime.
UCSF PD endeavors to be known for a community service orientation, effectiveness at preventing crime through campus community involvement, and for providing a safe living and working environment to promote education, research, and public service.
The UCSF PD strives to provide a crime-free and safe environment through strategic policing, integrity, respect, and strong community partnerships.
UCSF PD’s mission is to enhance the safety and quality of life at UCSF by working in partnership with the community to promote public safety and crime prevention through education and enforcement; to maintain public order while preserving the legal rights of all individuals; to provide effective, efficient, and courteous service; and to reduce the impact of crime. This mission is accomplished through effective:

Incident Reporting
If you are the victim or witness to a crime, you have the responsibility to report it immediately to the police. UCSF community members are encouraged to accurately and promptly report all crimes or suspicious activity to the UCSF Police Department when the victim of a crime elects or is unable to make such a report. Students and employees who report crimes to UCSF PD may aid in averting crimes and apprehending suspects, and may allow UCSF PD to issue a Timely Warning (Crime Alert) notice and include the information in the annual statistics disclosure. Most importantly, prompt reporting will help the Police Department maintain a safe and secure campus environment for all.
Confidential Reporting: All incidents reported to UCSF PD are considered confidential except for information required by law to be released. For cases involving sexual assault and with the complainant’s permission, UCSF PD can file a report on the details of the incident without revealing the complainant's identity. The purpose of a confidential report is to comply with the complainant’s wish to keep the matter confidential while taking steps to ensure the future safety of the complainant and others.
With this information, UCSF PD can maintain an accurate record of the number of incidents involving students and staff, identify crime patterns by location, method, or assailant, and alert the University community to potential danger. Reports filed in this manner are counted and disclosed in the annual crime statistics for the institution as part of UCSF’s Clery Act obligations.

Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report

The Annual Security Report includes statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by UCSF, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, crime reporting, timely warning of crimes, emergency notification of life/safety events, emergency response and evacuation, access and security of campus facilities, hazing, and personal safety at UCSF. Additionally, the report addresses UCSF policies and procedures related to sexual and interpersonal violence, including prevention, risk reduction, active upstander intervention, reporting, and support/resources for complainants/victims. This includes investigation and disciplinary procedures in cases of sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, and other violations of the UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy.
The Annual Fire Safety Report addresses UCSF’s on-campus student housing concerning fire safety policies, fire evacuation procedures, fire safety systems, fire drills, fire reporting, future fire safety-related improvements to on-campus student housing, and fire statistics.
The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act requires these publications to be made available to all current and prospective students and employees.
