Program Description

Post-Masters Certificate program provides opportunities for students who already have a master's degree to gain specialized knowledge within select APRN specialties. The program is open to registered nurses who possess a master's degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing school.

Current specialties open for enrollment are Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Acute Care, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. For detailed program information, please see the School of Nursing website for more information.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Completion of a master’s degree in an APRN specialty from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a four-point scale).
  3. RN and APRN licensure, NP furnishing license, and DEA in the state of California

If accepted, applicants must be licensed by the state Board of Registered Nursing and their nursing license must be recognized as valid for practice within the State of California during the complete course of study. (If your RN is from another U.S. state, or from Canada, you may qualify for Licensure by Endorsement by the BRN.)

Additional admissions requirements include:

  • Active California NP license, NP furnishing license, and DEA.
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, including any programs in which you are currently enrolled
  • Goal statement
  • Minimum of 3 letters of recommendation
  • Resume or CV
  • English proficiency for non-native speakers
  • A gap analysis completed the specialty leader

Learning Outcomes

Advanced preparation as an NP; certification at the state and national level in chosen specialty.
